A Country Research Project

World Map | by

We are learning about different countries around the world in Social Studies. Students have chosen a country to research. The kids will need to bring all of their information to school on MondayJan. 15th.  AT SCHOOL the students will put everything together, display it all on a bristle board (that I will provide in class). Then they will have an opportunity to share their poster and information with the class.

This is the information they will need to bring to school:

*a small map of the world showing the location of their country
*Country flag
*Type of currency (a picture and/or name of)
*Leader of the Country
*Official Language
*Type of traditional clothing
*Tradition food
*Special Customs or Holidays and Celebrations
They can add anything extra that they may find interesting.

Christmas Writing

The students have been working on their Persuasive Writing.
First, we learned some great tips on how to convince someone with our writing:
 * think of the audience-use language and ideas that will appeal to them
 *exaggerate
 *give facts and details
Together we wrote a letter to Santa to send an Elf on the Shelf,
and we must have sounded convincing because Snowflake came on December 4th!

Next, we learned that Santa needs help in his workshop. We found out our elf names and got down to work.

We filled out an application for a job in the North Pole Head Quarters. Here's a few samples.  Lets see what happens with that!

Then, each student wrote another letter to Santa telling him another animal option to guide his sleigh in-case the reindeer go on strike or need a break... some pretty convincing stuff.

Jingle Bells
We had great fun creating a festive dance for the song Jingle Bells. The goal was to work as a group, come up with a pattern core of 4 dance moves that would be repeated at least 3 times to the song Jingle Bells. Oh what fun!

Here's the Scoop!

In art class, students have learned some elements of design. We have identified characteristics of lines in art works and in the environment.

Students can recognize and name warm and cool colours.

Students can describe how secondary colours can be created by mixing primary colours.

This week we created a value scale by mixing tints (colour+white) and shades (colour +black).

After tracing ice cream scoops out of their colour palettes, students assembled them to make a colour value ice cream cone!
