We have a mystery on our hands... Some one has lost and forgotten a pair of black snow pants. They have been hanging around since December and each student has claimed, "not mine". If any parent recognizes them or the black fleece mitts, please write a note in the agenda and I will happily have your child bring them home.

Two Digit Addition and Subtraction

Two digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping is what we are presently working on. This can be a tricky concept for some students. No one strategy is the “right” strategy for students, for every problem. Some problems lend themselves to certain strategies because of the numbers. Students may also switch between strategies, depending on how they’re manipulating the numbers. The key thing to look for is if the student can explain his or her thinking when solving a problem. Students need pretty good fluency with their addition and subtraction facts. If students are spending too much time trying to figure out an addition fact and it’s keeping them from focusing on the strategy, then they need more fluency with their addition and subtraction facts. Here are some strategies students have learned.

To do two-digit addition, students need a strong foundation in the concept of ones and tens and what it means to break a number apart into ones and tens.

Congratulations on Your First Reconciliation

We would like to recognize our Grade 2 students who experienced their First Reconciliation today. Peace be with each of you as you continue on your sacramental journey.

Reconciliation Retreat

The grade 2 students had an opportunity to go to The Good Shepherd parish for their reconciliation retreat.

 
The morning was filled with stories, singing, a craft and a prayer service in order to prepare them for their upcoming First Reconciliation. Miss Betty has been visiting weekly to share stories from the Bible and assist with any questions the students may have. On Thursday, February 15th, (during the school day) the Grade 2 students will have their second sacrament at the school.
